2007.11.27 | New smartMOVE™ Actuator Platform for Camera Modules Announced by Artificial Muscle, Inc.

Advanced haptics actuator Development Kit available for evaluation to qualified customers

CES International, Las Vegas, Nevada -- November 27th, 2007 -- Artificial Muscle, Inc., (AMI) a manufacturer that designs and builds actuator components based on its patented electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM™) technology is pleased to announce the release of the smartTOUCH™ line of actuators based on this technology for the fast growing haptics display market. AMI will demonstrate its newest haptics technology based on its latest smartTOUCH actuators at the Display Technology Zone during the CES International Show and Conference. The new smartTOUCH actuators enable customization and programming of haptics effects and vibratory feedback into products ranging from the latest handheld multimedia devices to medical instrumentation displays to toys.

"The MLP-85 is a SMIA-based autofocus actuator that is faster, more efficient, lighter and more robust than current actuators, so we are not at all surprised with the strong acceptance we have experienced from camera module manufacturers." said Charlie Duncheon, Executive Vice President of Artificial Muscle, Inc. "The MLP-85 is the latest of many smartMOVE platform products that we will introduce to the camera module and handheld market."

"This new smartTOUCH actuator revolutionizes tactile feedback by enabling a whole new world of alternatives to traditional actuator technologies." said Ian Blasch, Vice President of Business Development at Artificial Muscle, Inc. "Our smartTOUCH actuator technology provides the developer with programmable control over the fidelity of the haptics signal and our new smartTOUCH Development Kit includes a sample selection of waveform types with variable frequency, duration and amplitude of the haptics effects."

About Artificial Muscle, Inc.

Artificial Muscle, Inc. (AMI) is a high technology company that designs and manufactures actuator and sensing components based on the new technology platform called electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM). EPAM technology offers significant advantages over typical electromagnetic-based technologies because it is much lighter, smaller, quieter and cheaper, and offers more controllable and flexible configurations. EPAM devices serve as lightweight, highly efficient alternatives to actuators, small motors, generators, sensors, and speakers used in products ranging from automobiles to audio speakers.

AMI was founded by SRI International and became an independent company in early 2004 with venture fund financing from Vanguard Ventures, ARCH Venture Partners, and NGEN Partners, as well as recent investment from AllianceBernstein L.P., Micron Technology, Inc.; Parker Hannifin Corporation; and CTTV Investments LLC, the venture capital arm of Chevron Technology Ventures.
